The Marion County Health Department is reporting 25 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday and Friday.
Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says three of the 25 new cases are linked to the Salem factory experiencing an outbreak. She is also reporting
second Marion County case has been confirmed as the highly contagious Delta Variant which is now believed to be the dominant variant in Southern Illinois as
well as most of the country.
Mallow says the cases range in age from three under six years of age to a male in his 80s. She reports three are of school age. None are in long term care facilities. Mallow says 4 of the 25 new cases were fully vaccinated.
There are currently 40 active cases including 34 on home isolation and six in the hospital, one who is on a ventilator.
There were 19 who were released from isolation during the two day period. The health department has not yet released the case report for the weekend and
Monday.
