The South Central School Board has adopted its Return to School Plan.

Superintendent Kerry Herdes says there will be full day classes 8am to 3pm for all students five days a week with no remote learning unless it is a result of a  COVID-19 isolation.

“We took away some of the layered mitigation as far as symptom screening and temperature checks towards the end of the year.  This is a gradual process for us.  We are saying masks recommended or what I’m calling the parents option.  We are going to monitor the situation day by day.  Not to say we couldn’t go back to that if the Covid cases continue to go up and we would have an outbreak in our district.”

All extracurricular activities will resume under IHSA, Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education guidelines. Food service will resume normal serving procedures, including resumed use of the salad bar. Field trips will also resume.

Herdes says they will continue to social distance at least three feet or to the greatest extent possible. There will be a continued emphasis on cleaning and  disinfecting facilities. Masks will be required on buses, school vans and driver’s education vehicles.

In other action, the South Central School Board agreed to a two year co-op with St. Peter Grade School for baseball and softball. However, during the first year South Central is expected to receive only two softball players and no baseball players. The district’s $850 per capita library grant this year will go to the South Central High School Library.

In personnel action, the board hired Baylee Black as a middle school English teacher. Jake Skibinski had his job classification change from certified teacher to certified administrator. Travis Mulvaney was named head middle school baseball coach, and Ean Fox as volunteer assistant middle school boys basketball coach.

The board accepted the resignation of Lucretia Schroeder as a support staff member.
