Better make sure you have auto insurance, because Illinois Security of State Jesse White’s office will be checking.
The office is using a new system to track down those that aren’t covered as required by law says Secretary of State spokesperson Henry Haupt.
“It’s an electronic verification system that is conducted at least twice a year for everyone at random intervals. So there is no escaping the fact if you don’t have automobile insurance the system will catch the fact you don’t have insurance.”
Those busted will be hit with a $100 fine and have their license plate suspended. But, if you get a letter from the Secretary of State’s Office saying you don’t have insurance but you actually do, you’ll need to contract your agent to get that verified.
