Salem Firemen report a car received heavy fire damage to the engine compartment Thursday morning when it caught fire while traveling southbound on I-57 just south of the Tonti Road overpass.
Fire officials say the driver and owner, Derek Moss of Nashville, heard a pop, saw the oil pressure light come on, and then saw a fire underneath the front of the car.
Salem Fire Chief Dave Duncan says the engine compartment was fully involved in fire upon their arrival.
The car was a 2012 Chevy Malibu.
The fire call came in at 4:52 Thursday morning.
