The Salem City Council Tuesday night will be asked to approve an ordinance setting a policy for federal and state grant administration.

City Manager Rex Barbee says both state and federal grant administrations require that municipalities have a policy in place to ensure sound accounting practices and to provide consistency in the administration of grants.

The council will also be asked to amend the last fiscal year budget to provide for higher than approved expenditures in two accounts.  The Police Pension Fund went $35,000 over budget due to an unexpected retirement.  The Veteran’s Fund will need $200 added to cover the additional expenses in the purchase of additional flags for the Avenue of Flags in the City.  The city is not required to adjust funds that were under budget.

The council meeting begins at six Tuesday night at Salem City Hall.  It is open to the public.
