A fire that may have started from burning candles heavily damaged a rural Woodlawn home at 12,851 North Washer Lane Friday afternoon.

Jefferson Fire Protection District firefighters say two adults and three children and all the pets in the Christian Stroud residence were able to get out safely.   The initial fire call indicated candles had caught drapes on fire.  When firemen arrived, there was heavy smoke and fire showing from the residence.

Firemen say they were able to contain the fire to the middle and west portion of the home, but the single-story structure will most likely be a total loss.

The State Fire Marshal’s office was called in to further investigate.

The fire call came in at 1:45 Friday afternoon.  Firemen were on the scene for about three hours.  Mt. Vernon, Woodlawn, Waltonville, and Bluford Firemen all responded with mutual aid assistance.
