You’ll find events and fireworks for the 4th of July holiday in Salem, Centralia, Mt. Vernon and Farina this weekend, but will now have to wait for the fireworks in Carlyle until Labor Day weekend.
The Centralia American Legion Homecoming opened in Fairview Park Thursday night and continues through Sunday when the fireworks display is planned for ten pm. Every night is an armband night for the carnival. For just $25 where you can ride all the rides you want from six to ten pm. There will be food, games and other activities for the family each night. Sunday will be the big day. There will be a car show, with registration beginning at nine am. The Veterans Fourth of July Parade will travel from Broadway to Chestnut downtown to Fairview Park beginning at two Sunday afternoon. A special mobile military history museum will be open from two to eleven topped off with the fireworks show over Fairview Park at ten Sunday night.
In Farina, a full day of activities are planned in the village park on Saturday, with food stands and beer garden opening at noon. Parade registration is at two and the parade through downtown to the park at three Saturday afternoon. Inflatables, pony rides, kids games and Bingo starts in the park at four and a Cake Walk is planned for five. The Cody Phillips Band will perform at 5:15 and The John and Dave Duo at 7:45 pm. A spectacular fireworks display is scheduled for 9:30. The John and Dave Duo returns to the stage at ten to close out the 65th annual celebration.
In Salem, activity opens at three Sunday afternoon with music and eight food trucks and Saved with Amazing Grace providing a variety of food along with ice cream, kettle corn, and donuts. The entertainment line-up includes John Spicer playing at three, LoveSeat at 3:50, Matt Poss at 4:20, Taylor Steele and the Love Preachers at 5:45 and Chain Station at seven. There will be a half-hour to move to the area around the Salem Reservoir where the fireworks display is planned for nine Sunday night.
Mt. Vernon will hold its Salute to Freedom at Outland Airport on Sunday. Gates open at five pm with free admission. There will be inflatables, Laser Tag, music by Supe, one of the co-founders for the Ozark Mountain Daredevils on stage at seven pm. Fireworks are planned at dusk.
Meanwhile, Carlyle Lake officials have announced the Fireworks Spectacular planned for Saturday night has been postponed until Labor Day weekend due to unforeseen circumstances. There will be no food vendor. Although there will not be a fireworks display, the Dam Jam, Sandcastle Building Contest, and Beach Games are still scheduled to take place in the Dam West Day Use Area. Visitors are also reminded that fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted on US Army Corps of Engineers property.
