Two people were sent to prison after failing to show up for their sentencing hearings in Marion County Court.

42-year-old Richard May of South Elm in Centralia received a three year prison term for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

He had earlier admitted to having a .380 caliber handgun uncases, loaded and immediately accessible. As part of the plea charges of possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a weapon by a felony were dropped. After getting out of prison, May will have to serve one year parole.

25-year-old Shatavia McGee of McKee Street in Centralia was sentenced to two years in prison after earlier pleading guilty to felony theft of a car in August 2020. McGee will have to complete one year mandatory supervised release when getting out of prison.

Both had been warned they would be sentenced in abstentia if they didn’t appear for their sentencing hearing.
