A 27-year-old Sandoval man has been sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated battery for shooting a person with a projectile from an air rifle.

Joey Evans is accused of striking Kelsey Ashby and Sierra Sanders in August 2020 when firing the air rifle behind the Marion County Housing Authority Units apartments near the Sandoval Park.

Evans admitted to the charge of striking Ashby in exchange for the aggravated battery charge for striking Sanders dropped.

Sandoval Police at the time said Evans had been in an altercation with the two earlier. Neither required hospital treatment.

Evans was sentenced to two years in prison on an unrelated felony theft charge for taking $750 in cash from a person in July of 2019.

The two prison terms will run concurrently and be followed by a year of parole. Evans also received credit for nine days served in the Marion County Jail. He’ll have to make $750 to the man who had his money stolen.
