The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to open up city streets to utility vehicles and golf carts. Requirements would be similar to other area communities. Speeds would be limited to 25 miles per hour and operation would not be allowed on sidewalks or Illinois Route 161, U.S. 51, Broadway from Pullen to Oak Park, or the Walnut Hill Road except to cross at intersections. Each vehicle would have to meet equipment requirements and require a permit from the City Clerk’s Office that would require a driver’s license, proof of insurance, and signed waivers. Fines will be set for violation of provisions of the ordinance.
Other items on the agenda include approving a forgivable TIF 5 loan agreement with Centralia Coin, Stamp, Etc. for Façade Improvements at 330 West Broadway and using the South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission to write a grant application for replacement a steel water line that brings water to the city’s water plant from Carlyle Lake.
A closed session is scheduled to discuss the replacement of Councilman David Sauer for the remainder of the two years remaining on his term. Sauer resigned earlier this month.
The meeting will be conducted at Centralia City Hall beginning at six Monday night. For those unable to attend in person, it will be available via Zoom.
