Marion County’s incoming Sheriff Andy Garden told the Law Enforcement of the Marion County Board Tuesday night he was making plans to give a test for lieutenant to replace him as well as making preparations for the top person on the eligibility list to go through the state-mandated training program beginning in August.

Garden will officially take over as sheriff on July first after current Sheriff Rich Stevenson retires.

Garden says he is still undecided on if he will run for election in 2022 for sheriff.    However, if he doesn’t run or doesn’t win, Garden has decided he will retire and will not want to return to the lieutenant’s position.   As a result, another officer will need to be added to the staff.
