A 39-year-old homeless woman was formally charged in Marion County Court on Wednesday with aggravated battery to a police officer.

Candie Napoli is accused of striking a Salem Police officer in the chest with her closed fist on a business parking lot Tuesday night.

Police reports indicate an officer had been called to try and get Napoli to leave another woman alone.   The incident occurred when the officer tried to pull Napoli’s hand off the door handle of the person she was allegedly bothering.

Bond for Napoli was set at $20,000.  The public defender was appointed to represent her.   A motion has been filed seeking a fitness test to determine if Napoli is fit to stand trial.   A hearing on the motion to order the test is set for June 20th.

This is the third time Napoli has been arrested since the beginning of the month.  She has been charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest following one incident in Centralia.  A few days later, she was arrested again by Centralia Police for violation of bail bond.
