Wamac Police Chief Steve Prather has announced a 53-year-old Centralia man has been arrested in connection with an April 4th stabbing that occurred outside McGuire’s Grill and Bar at closing time.
Prather says James Miller of South Sycamore was taken into custody without incident at his apartment Sunday night. He is believed to have left the state for several weeks following the stabbing.
Prather identifies the victim as 26-year-old Michael Daiber of Breese. He was reportedly stabbed nine time in various parts of his body following an altercation with Miller outside McGuire’s. Prather reports there was no indication of a problem inside the bar before closing, but once outside Miller allegedly drew Daiber into a scuffle. The two ended up wrestling and went to the ground. Daiber later realized he had been stabbed and was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. That’s when Wamac Police were notified.
Prather says Daiber was later transferred to a St. Louis Hospital, but has since been released.
