Only two area counties are above the statewide 32-percent of residents being fully vaccinated. Both Washington and Clinton County are nearing 34-percent.
State officials say in Marion County, 9,273, or just under 25-percent of the population, is now fully vaccinated. Jefferson, Wayne, and Clay Counties are all nearing 24-percent vaccination rate. Fayette County trails the region with just 18-percent of residents vaccinated.
Illinois health officials say the state is nearing 10 million COVID-19 vaccines. The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Sunday that Illinois has roughly 11.8 million vaccines on hand, of which more than 9.3 million have been administered.
The state logged another 1,860 new confirmed and probable infections and 27 more COVID-19 deaths. Single deaths were reported on Sunday in Franklin, Madison, and Williamson Counties in Southern Illinois with no deaths in South Central Illinois.
Overall, Illinois has totaled more than 1.3 million cases and 22,019 deaths.
The statewide positivity rate for the past seven days is at 3.4-percent. Marion County’s rate is at just a half percent. Fayette County is also at a half-percent. Wayne County has the highest rate at four percent. Jefferson County’s rate is at 1.1-percent. In Clinton County, the seven-day positivity rate is at 1.5-percent. In Washington County, it is 3.1-percent. Clay County’s rate is at 2.8-percent.
With COVID-19 cases declining, some restrictions are easing. That includes Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot saying some sports fans will be allowed to return to the United Center for the first time in more than a year.
