Centralia High School will offer both in-person and on-line summer school this year.

Principal Reid Shipley made the announcement Thursday night at the monthly meeting of the CHS Board of Education.

Superintendent Chuck Lane said, “We are going to increase our summer school offerings this year due to of all the COVID stuff and some of our learning loss – we’re going to expand on summer offerings so kids can get caught up. The other thing we’re going to do in summer schools is create a class for incoming freshmen that maybe in a math lab that want to get out of that lab so they can take an elective – they’ll be able to come to a course this summer to take a math class pass that class and get out of the lab and be able to take an elective when school starts.”

As many as five classes may be offered on line, with one or two additional classes in person. Offerings are expected to include math, English, and civics.

Art teacher Chris Tucker spoke to the board about the progress made in the CHS art program, with several current and former students discussing their progress and plans in art, as well as showing the board some of their works created as a result of the program.

In the reorganization of the board following the recent elections all previous officers returned in their same positions – Galen Mahle as president, Keith Kessler as vide-president, and Rod Snow as secretary.
