The Sandoval School Board has a new President.

Joseph Rhodes won a contested election 4-3 over the incumbent board President Jered Gambill. Tyson McHenry was elected the new board vice chair. The election came after outgoing board member David Hanks was honored for his six years on the school board and Angie Hunter was seated as his replacement. Emily Heinzman, McHenry, and Gambill were all sworn in for an additional term.

The school board approved a three year contract with the teacher’s association. Superintendent Rob Miller says teachers will receive a five to 6.5-percent raise over the three year period. He reports the salary scale will help theĀ  district catch up with others in the area.

The board was informed by Prom coordinator Rhonda Benjamin that Prom would look different this year. Members of the Junior and Senior Class will spend two hours at Incredible Pizza before returning to Sandoval High School on May 6th when Coronation of the King and Queen will be held. There will be no outside attendance allowed, but the event will be live streamed.

High School and 8th Grade Graduation at Sandoval will once again be outside events this year. Miller says that will allow as many as desire to attend the event on the front lawn of the junior-senior high school. High School graduation will be on Friday night, May 14th, and 8th Grade graduation on Monday night, May 17th.

Both will begin at seven pm.

The calendar for next school year was approved, with the school year beginning on August 16th. There will be a two week break for Christmas and three days for Spring Break.

There will be extended learning for three hours a day on weekdays from June 7th through June 25th for any students who wishes to participate.
