Ameren officials say power will likely remain out to about 600 customers in the Iuka and Xenia area until around 6:45 Thursday night.
Spokesperson Brian Bretsch says the outage began around 7:45 Thursday morning when a large oak tree fell into a power line and broke a pole. The tree also fell across the road and is blocking access for crews to begin restoration work until a tree removal crew is able to complete their work.
There are a total of 282 customers in Marion County and 319 in Clay County that are impacted.
The Iuka Grade School dismissed at 11:30 Thursday morning as a result of the outage.
The tree fell after early morning storms had moved out of the area. The Salem Water Plant reported 1.21 inches of rain and the Centralia Water Treatment Plant 1.25 inches of rain.
Area police departments have not reported any damage from the storm itself.
