In a school year when many things have been canceled, the Centralia High School Showcase on Stage has found a way to proceed with the spring play “Storied”. Director Jami Jacobs says performances are set for this Friday and Saturday night.
“The play is a story about stories. You will find a lot of your favorite characters, Alice and the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, Santa Claus just to name a few. Our characters are found in this magical land of all these fairy tale characters and they need to figure out if they themselves are in a story.”
Jacobs says after having to cancel Elf Junior in the fall due to changing COVID conditions she took a different approach this spring.
“We wanted to do something that couldn’t possibly be canceled. So we picked a show we could do live, live-stream, or even do on Zoom if we had to. And this one checked all the boxes.”
Asher Fortman who plays Kevin says his character helps to save the world. He notes the two months of preparation have been different from past plays.
“It was kind of difficult to transition from what it says in the script like touching wise while trying to maintain that 6 feet apart. For most of the play, we are pretty spread out, we try not to touch each other. I know there is a scene where the script specifically tells me to touch somebody but I don’t.”
Sam Muhammad is a senior who has been in every show since she was a freshman and admit with COVID restrictions it was much more difficult, but she’s glad she remained involved. She plays the Big Metal Thing.
“I pretty much am just a voice but I get shown on screen live. I’m like the thing that doesn’t fit in the whole show.”
Twelve students are in the cast. They include:
