South Central School Superintendent Kerry Herdes announced at Wednesday night’s school board meeting that this year’s eighth grade and high school graduation will remain outside due to COVID-19 concerns.
He reports both events will be held on Friday night, May 21st, at South Central High School in Farina.
“It will be outdoors in our parking lot area again and we will have six seats together per family, then we will have a separation point, and then six more and fill up the parking lot. We will also have a drive-thru zone we had good luck last year with our P.A. system where they tuned into a certain radio station and heard the broadcasts and they enjoyed that to be honest. Especially those people with trouble walking and getting in and out so we are going to continue that. We heard rave reviews last year.”
Herdes says with relaxed COVID-19 restrictions, the number of chairs per family was increased from two to six. He told the board if the weather is threatening that day the stage can be moved inside.
Middle School Graduation will begin at six pm, followed by the high school graduation at seven pm.
The board was told there will be a Prom coronation at the high school on Saturday night, May 1st, but there will be no dance due to COVID-19 concerns. The coronation will not be open to the public but will be streamed live on the high school’s Facebook page.
