Salem Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Bill Fulton says an older mobile home was heavily damaged in a fire discovered by a neighbor just before midnight Wednesday night.
Fulton says flames were shooting out the north and east side windows of the home at 4755 England Road upon their arrival. He reports they got a quick knockdown, but the east end of the mobile home was burned out, while the west end received heavy heat and smoke damage. Fulton does not believe the home can be repaired.
The home was occupied by Scott Sloat and owned by Misty Bell.
Sloat was at work at the time the fire was discovered.
Fulton says they know the fire started in the kitchen, but have not pinpointed it further. There was no electricity turned on to the home. A state deputy fire marshal is scheduled to visit the fire
scene on Thursday.
The fire was first reported at 11:45 Wednesday night. Firemen were on the scene for about an hour and a half. There were no injuries.
Kell Firemen responded with mutual aid and a water tender, although Fulton says hauling water to the scene never became an issue. Odin Firemen stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
