The Salem City Council Monday night is expected to further review a request for a liquor license for the former Family Video building on West Main Street.
A request was made at the last meeting for first a Class A license that would allow serving of alcohol and video gaming, but later modified to a Class C license just for package liquor. Patel said the license would be used as part of a convenience store on a lease option for the building. The issue was tabled at the last meeting for further study.
The council is expected to give final approval to the budget for the fiscal year that begins May 1st. City Manager Rex Barbee says the budget will finish in the black and will not have any change in number of employees. He has suggested the city needs to look at a water rate increase to continue funding needed improvements.
The council will discuss reducing the cost of liquor licenses for one year due to the impacts of COVID-19 on local businesses. The council will review bids for upgrading vehicles in the police department and animal control with the purchase of a low mileage used vehicle. Barbee says two local dealers have
proposed six vehicles for the purchase.
A closed session is scheduled to discuss the purchase of property currently owned by the city. An open session will follow for possible action.
The council meeting will be held in person beginning at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
