Mt. Vernon Police say two gunshot wound victims early Saturday morning apparently were shooting at each other.
The Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Cherry Street to a report of a person being shot. One person was transported from the scene to an area hospital. About 20 minutes later, police received a report from Good Samaritan Hospital of a second person who had a gunshot wound being at the hospital.
At this time, Mt. Vernon Police say they are not seeking any other suspects and no arrests have been made.
Mt. Vernon Police Patrol Officers, Detectives and a Crime Scene Technician were all called to investigate. At the conclusion of the investigation, the report will be forwarded to the Jefferson County
State’s Attorney’s Office for a review of possible charges.
The first call about the gunfire was received at 4:02 Saturday morning.
