The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to approve a truancy ordinance or code.

Police Chief Greg Dodson says the ordinance will amend the Centralia Municipal Code to add it with the ability to issue citations and enforce it. The ordinance will made it unlawful for students to be absent without valid cause, absent for five or more days of school during any one semester unless for valid cause, or to be in a public place during school hours. The ordinance would also make it unlawful for a parent to knowingly allow truancy to occur.

The council will also recognize Police Sergeant James Ramsey for 25 years of service and maintenance operator for Mark Knox for 15 years of service.

There will be additional discussion on returning to open meetings.

The meeting will begin at six Monday night via the Zoom platform.
