The Salem Aquatic Center will open on schedule Memorial Day weekend. That’s the word from Salem City Officials as they make preparations for the pool opening.
Public Works Director Annette Brushwitz says the pool will continue to have two open swim sessions a day instead of one. The format was adopted when the pool opened late last year due to COVID-19 and proved to work well. The general swim sessions will be from ten to two and 2:30 to 6:30 each day.
Brushwitz says that will allow for one party to be held each night and two on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Swim lessons and early swim will also be offered again this year.
The city’s website will open at ten am on Saturday, May 1st, for party reservations, to purchase pool passes, and to sign up for swim lessons. Party reservations will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.
Brushwitz says the city is currently taking applications at city hall for those who would like to work at the pool during the summer. She reports they will provide Red Cross Certification training for those who would like to be lifeguards but don’t have the certification.
Brushwitz says how long the pool will remain open after school resumes in the fall will depend on staff availability.
Plans could still change depending on changes in COVID-19 mitigation.
