New daily COVID-19 cases rose above four-thousand Friday for the first time since the end of January.

In addition to the 4,004 new and probable cases of infection, there were 21 additional deaths.   The number of COVID patients in the hospital is also increasing, with about 1,800 currently admitted.

But Governor JB Pritzker says the good news is that it was another record day for vaccinations, with more than 164,000 given on Thursday.

“That’s a great direction, that is definitely positive news.   We just need to make sure that everyone is following mitigations as they exist today….wearing masks and doing the right thing so we can bring the hospitalizations and ICU beds down.”

The Governor says those that are ending up in the hospital typically haven’t been vaccinated.   You can find a vaccination site near you online at coronavirus.illinois.gov.  The statewide positivity rate remains at 4.2-percent.

In Marion County, only three new cases of COVID-19 are being reported on Friday.  One was a student where contact tracing is underway.  Two of the cases are considered community spread and one is a household or close contact.  There are 32 active cases.  Three of those are in the hospital and one is on a ventilator.

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting five new cases.  There are 13 on home isolation and one hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department has two new cases on Friday.   There are currently 12 in isolation.

The Washington County Health Department is reporting new cases on Thursday and Friday.  The county currently has five active cases and no one hospitalized.
