It’s the first weekly crop report of the season.  Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener says Illinois farmers were able to till, spread dry fertilizer and apply anhydrous ammonia this past week.  As far as the condition of the winter wheat.

“2% of winter wheat acres were heading as of Sunday, April 4.  That compares to 1% for the five-year average.  The condition of the wheat crop was reported as 9% very poor to poor, 17% fair, and 74% good to excellent.  That is better than one week ago.”

Pasture conditions are rated as 58% in good to excellent condition.  Average statewide topsoil moisture came in at 1% very short, 16% short, 70% adequate, and 30% surplus.
