The Salem City Council Monday night tabled a request for a liquor license for the former Family Video building.

Falguni Patel of Centralia had initially requested a Class A liquor license that would have allowed consumption on the premise and would have also open a path to video gaming. However, she later indicated a Class C license for package liquor sales would work.

The council appeared more interested in allowing an additional Class C license since it would not allow video gaming. They have rejected other proposals that would have allowed for more video gaming. However, the council decided to hold off on a decision until the next meeting to further study the proposal.

The council would have to increase the number of licenses available as all current A and C liquor licenses are in use.

Patel says they are looking at using the building for a convenience store similar to a 7/11. She noted they would initially rent the building, but if the business is successful they would like to purchase it.
