New COVID-19 case numbers remain low in South Central Illinois but are continuing to spike statewide. 3,526 new cases were reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health on Thursday, the highest number since February 5th. There were also 25 additional deaths across the state. There were three in Madison County and two in St. Clair County in the Metro-East, but none in South Central or Southern Illinois.
The Marion County Health Department is reporting 11 new cases on Wednesday and Thursday. None were long-term care residents nor students. Three of the cases are considered community spread and eight from household or close contacts.
There are currently 17 active cases. Five of those are hospitalized and two are on ventilators. 14 were released from isolation over the two-day reporting period.
Clinton County reported five new cases on Thursday, with 20 active cases in isolation. Jefferson County had four new cases on Thursday, with 15 in isolation. Washington County reported four new cases on Wednesday and Thursday. They are the only people currently in isolation.
