The Salem Planning Commission unanimously agreed to recommend to the city council a double-wide mobile home not be allowed to be placed on West Warmoth Street on the former Salem Armory property.

Patricia Blair of Kinmundy made the request to locate the 2005 modular double-wide on a fixed foundation. Three neighboring property owners argued against the special use permit because they felt the home would have a negative impact on their property values.

The council recommended approval of two other special use permits to the city council at its meeting Monday night.

Crescendo Properties LLC by Rebecca Timmerman received approval for a plan to hold a Saturday morning Farmer’s Market in the parking lot of her building at 217 West Main from May through September.

The Orchard Shopping Center on Route 37 South had their special use renewal approved to hold “Friday First” events in the shopping center parking lot for another year beginning July 1st. Planning Commission Chair Rick McCullum felt the events were a good thing for the community.

There was no public comment for or against either proposal.

The planning commission elected officers for the coming year. McCullum will remain chair and Jim Milano vice-chair.
