Five Georgia residents were injured when their SUV collided head-on with a semi on Interstate 57 south of Mt. Vernon during the severe weather Saturday night.

State Police released preliminary details on the crash Tuesday afternoon.  They report the SUV driven by 30-year-old Jazlyn McDearmont of Rome, Georgia was traveling northbound in the left lane when it left the roadway, crossed through the center median, and struck a southbound semi driven by 30-year-old Meron Ghebremariam of Pickergton, Ohio.

McDearmont and four juvenile passengers in her vehicle all from Rome, Georgia were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The semi-driver refused medical attention.

McDearmont was ticketed for driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured vehicle, and operation of a vehicle when registration is suspended.
