Fire caused considerable damage to a home in Centralia that was vacant following the recent death of its owner.

Centralia City Firemen say there were smoke and fire coming through the roof at the rear of the home at 644 North Hickory upon their arrival.

Firemen were able to contain the fire to the rear of the structure, but the rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It is owned by the estate of Charles Ellis.

All available Centralia City Firemen were called in and the Centralia Fire Protection District was called for mutual aid assistance. Sandoval Firemen were called to stand by at the Centralia Fire Station in the event of another fire.

The fire call was received at 10:14 Monday night. Firemen were on the scene for about two hours.
