Kaskaskia College President George Evans says “it’s time” and the college will move back to more face to face courses for the summer and fall semester.
Evans says the change is possible due to fewer COVID-19 cases and changes in CDC guidelines that allow desks to be closer together.
“It’s been proven by the World Health Organization and the CDC that schools are not the super spreaders that they thought they would be. So what we are looking to do is enhance our face to face offerings and expand them as well as to put some more chairs into the class in a safe manner and follow IDPH and CDC guidelines but you got to remember a lot of our classrooms were literally cut in half with the 6-foot rule so now we are looking at the potential of adding 4-6 seats in various classrooms.”
Evans says the college will continue to offer online and hybrid formats for those students who are not yet comfortable returning to in-person learning. He notes not all formats will be available for every course.
The college board earlier implemented a tuition freeze for the coming school year. The per credit hour rate will remain at $152 per credit hour as KC strives to remove potential financial barriers for continuing and prospective students due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All students will still complete the pre-screening form via the KC Connect app before visiting campus.
KC is now enrolling students for the summer and fall semesters. You can find out more by visiting kaskaskia.edu or by calling 618-545-3000.
