The Marion County Health Department is reporting only one new COVID-19 case on Tuesday and Wednesday at a time the number of cases statewide has spiked.
The health department reports the one new case is the result of household or close contact. The number of active cases has dropped to eight, with only two of those remaining in the hospital. Six were released from isolation on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Clinton County Health Department is reporting four new positive cases. There are 39 still on home isolation and no hospitalizations.
The Jefferson County Health Department reported four new cases on Wednesday with 13 remaining in isolation.
The Washington County Health Department is confirming two new cases on Tuesday and Wednesday. There are eight active cases and no hospitalizations.
Statewide, there were 2,793 cases reported. That’s the highest number in a single day since February. There were also 20 additional deaths reported. None of the deaths were in South Central Illinois. One death was reported in St. Clair County and one in Franklin County.
With the big statewide increase in cases, the seven-day positivity rate increased to 2.8-percent.
Another 107,219 doses of vaccine were administered on Wednesday, bringing the total number of vaccines given statewide to over 5-million.
