The Marion County Farm Bureau served 225 a free drive-through breakfast Wednesday morning.

Marion-Clinton County Farm Bureau Manager Brad Conant says the breakfast was to recognize National Ag Week and the US having a safe, abundant, and affordable domestic food supply.

“Ag Week is pretty important to us at the Farm Bureau and we didn’t want to cancel it two years in a row.  Just like everything else, we had to rethink how we did things and we wanted to offer the drive-through event to still send the message.  We appreciate all the donations to help Ag in the Classroom and scholarship program in the county.”

Conant explains why they decided to make the breakfast free.

“Fifty cents in the last several years was supposed to represent how affordable food is. With this year, with all the restrictions, we just didn’t want to handle money and change and things  That’s why we offered a free breakfast.   We needed some good news for once, so a free breakfast and just a goodwill donations to support those programs is the direction we decided to go this year.”

Conant says those attending were very generous, with $750 raised for Ag in the Classroom. That’s more than what has been collected at the in-person breakfasts in the past even though attendance was lower. Conant hopes they are able to return to the sit-down Ag Week breakfasts in future years.
