The Illinois Housing Development Authority is going to complete a Comprehensive Housing Plan for Centralia that could open up additional funding sources for housing improvements.

City Manager Forrest Langenfeld reported the Authority will assign four full-time staff members to complete the plan with city officials.

“No cost project for the city, a comprehensive housing plan that will prepare us not only to apply for grants through the Illinois Housing Development Authority.  Our developers could gain points of status on tax credit projects through the housing tax credit program that the state administers.  It will also help us as we apply this summer for some State Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and housing rehabilitation grant funds.

Langenfeld says if the city had to pay for such a plan it would cost $75,000 to $100,000. He thanked the City’s Springfield consultant Jeff Torricelli for his assistance in setting up the Friday conference call where the plan was discussed in detail.
