The Sandoval Village Board has agreed to raise the minimum cost of ordinance violation tickets and for towing of vehicles.

Police Chief Joe Lyons asked for both changes. Lyons felt the minimum ordinance violation fee wasn’t enough to get violators to take care of the problem. The board agreed to raise it from $75 to $150.

Lyons wanted the tow fee to go from $100 to $250 to try and prevent repeat driving by those without licenses. He notes with the county jail not taking repeat offenders for driving on suspended or revoked licenses, some are paying the $100 to get their vehicle back and then driving again. Lyons hopes the higher fee will made that more difficult.

Lyons had also suggested an ordinance to require trash set out be required to be in cans and that the cans could only be set out for a limited period of time each week. However, the board wanted to hold off because they expect their garbage contractor to implement a system where a trash can is provided as part of the automation of the pickup process.

Village Administrator LeAnn Speiser hopes that work is completed on the major park renovations made possible by a State OSLAD grant by June 1st. The board Tuesday night awarded a bid to T and L Contracting for $18,573 to install sidewalks, handicapped parking, and a concrete pad for the new ball field bleachers.

The board was told a $52,556 CURES grant to the village was now final. The board made no decision on making bonus payments to employees who worked through the pandemic.

The board also agreed to hire three summer workers to assist the public works department.
