A 58-year-old Centralia man was injured when struck by an Amtrak train slowing to make a stop at the Centralia station Saturday night.

Centralia City Firefighters say Larry Sligar was transported by Lifestar Ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of an apparent broken arm and a possible head injury after his arm was clipped by the train at the Broadway crossing downtown.    Sligar was thrown about 20 feet before landing on the ground.

He told Centralia Police he was trying to beat the train across the crossing.

The incident occurred at 8:14 Saturday night and delayed the northbound train for about 20 minutes.
