The Kinmundy Board of Alderman Thursday night was told work is continuing to restore several downtown buildings on Madison Street.
Brenda Altadonna said ten windows have now been replaced in the former bank building with five more to do as donations are received. The Madison Street Historic Preservation Group has also obtained bids on reroofing the buildings which they hope to do this summer if funding is available from donors.
A large fundraiser is being planned for May 1st with three food trucks and several vendors expected to set up outside the buildings. A flea market is being held in one of the buildings on a regular basis to raise funds as well as to get people inside to see the work being done on the buildings.
As a result of the plans and work already done, the Kinmundy Board voted to drop an ordinance violation against the property due to the severe deterioration.
Kinmundy has a new police officer. Kevin Barry was hired to replace Vince King who resigned in February. Barry will attend the police training academy in Belleville prior to starting work on the street.
Kinmundy has set the city-wide yard sales for June 5th and 6th. Cleanup day will be Saturday, June 12th, with dumpsters once again available for the disposal of large items.
The board was told the owners of the now-closed American Obstacle should have all of their property removed from the old city lake possibly as soon as this weekend. The lake will revert back to community use.
Several summer street resurfacing projects are being planned. They include Monroe from Route 37 to 4th street and Monroe from Route 37 to the north city limits. Improvements are also planned for Washington Street from Fifth Street to the south city limits.
The city is also planning to resurface a large section of Fourth Street, but money has not yet been released from the Rebuild Illinois program that would be utilized for that project.
