The Centralia City Grade School Board has set Thursday night, May 27th, for eighth-grade promotion. However, Superintendent Craig Clark says what the event will consist of will be determined by COVID-19 restrictions at the time.
The board also tentatively set the last day of school for students on June 1st.
Another 63 students have returned to in-person learning. Clark says that leaves only about 150 on full remote learning, well under half the number that started the school year on full remote learning.
Plans are underway for summer school in order to address the needs of those who may need additional support to move to the next grade level. Clark says the program will concentrate on core subject areas. Summer school is tentatively set to be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from eight to three from June 8th to July 15th. Transportation and meals will be provided.
This is the first time in a number of years the district will provide summer school. A team of teachers and administrators have begun meeting and each building leadership team is creating a tool and or guidelines to determine who qualifies to attend summer school.
The board acted on a number of personnel issues. Andi Barnfield was hired as a third-grade teacher and Mollie Strain as Speech-Language Pathologist. The board accepted an intent to retire letter from Jordan Special Education Teacher Lisa Wysocki. The board accepted resignations from SOAR Teacher Tami Eller, bus driver Marvin Creps, and bus monitors Chris Ray and Zach Robbins.
