Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds says evidence was found Monday to indicate Five Brothers Cafe at 2053 West Main had been burglarized Sunday night in addition to being damaged by fire.

Reynolds says as the fire was being investigated on Monday it was determined an outside door had apparently been left open.  A small amount of cash was reported missing.

The State Fire Marshal’s office was called to try and determine the cause of the fire that gutted a backroom used for storage that also contained the building’s electrical panels.   While the fire was confined to one room, the rest of the restaurant received moderate smoke damage.  So far, the Fire Marshal’s office has not released an opinion on the cause of the fire.
