There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for the Centralia area on Easter afternoon, April 4th, but it won’t be traditional.
Wamac Mayor Butch Mathis says continued limitations on crowd gatherings because of COVID-19 is forcing a drive through Easter Egg Hunt. He says parents or guardians, with their children 12 and under in their vehicle, are being asked to enter the Wamac Park from Wabash Avenue onto Precision Drive beginning at one Easter afternoon.
Mathis says they will drive up to a registration table where each child will receive a bag containing candy eggs, a toy, chips, and other items.
“We will give a ticket out and have parents fill out kids name, age group and male or female and we will do a drawing later that day and will contact the parents to come to the Wamac City Hall to pick up the prizes. It could be a bicycle, an Easter basket or assorted candies and such.”
Mathis says they are once again working with the business community to donate prizes.
“We had to figure something out outside the box. Unfortunately, last year ruined everything for us and me and the council doesn’t fell that we should allow the children to go through this mess again this year so we are going to do something.”
Mathis says the drive-through event will continue through three Easter afternoon. He hopes the Easter Egg hunt can return to a “regular hunt” next year.
