Jefferson Fire Protection District officials report minor damage to a mobile home in rural Texico in a Wednesday afternoon fire.

Fire officials say the fire at the Sean Eubanks home on Stratford Lane began when an ember apparently flew out of a burn barrel into a hay bale that was against the underpinning of his mobile home to help provide additional insulation from the cold. The fire then spread to some of the underpinning.

Eubanks saw that the fire had spread and was able to have most of the fire knocked down by the time firemen arrived. Firemen completed putting out the fire that resulted in some melted underpinning, as well as a few floor joists, catching fire. There was no interior fire or smoke damage.

Since Jefferson Rural Firemen didn’t know the extent of the fire when they responded, a mutual aid call went out to Kell, Woodlawn, Waltonville, and Bluford Firemen. They were canceled when Jefferson Rural arrived on the scene and saw the fire could quickly be brought under control.
