The Salem City Council will be asked to approve a change order Monday night to expand the scope of the Inclusive Playground in Bryan Memorial Park.
City Manager Rex Barbee is requesting the original contract price of $330,000 be increased to $362,000. It would add fitness stations, batting cages and other recreational improvements. The additional items would be purchased through the successful low bidders on the main project. The addition of other items to the proposal was done to enhance the chance of receiving a state grant to pay for about half the cost of the entire project. There is money for the additions from the grant and through the fund raising efforts of the Salem Lions Club and Addy and Friends Fundraising.
The council will consider the purchase of six flushing stations to be placed at the end of existing water line trunks to allow for more economical sampling of water for IEPA requirements. The $14,846 cost is budgeted.
A contract is up for renewal with Metro-Ag, Incorporated of Breese which hauls off residual materials from the Salem Waste Water Plant.
Bids will be reviewed for materials needed for the summer street maintenance program.
The council will be asked to declare a 2014 Vermeer trencher no longer needed by the gas department as surplus, so it can be sold.
Somer Real Estate will present a sealed bid for a lot at the former Armory location on North College Street.
A closed session is scheduled to discuss selection of a person to serve as Acting Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem until after the April municipal election. The council could come back into open session to name the replacement for the late Sue Morgan.
The council meeting begins at six Monday night in person at Salem City Hall.
