Olney Central 74; John A. Logan 73

          Olney Central came back from a seven-point deficit with 35-seconds to play and edged third-rated John A. Logan, 74-73, at Carterville – leaving both teams tied for the District lead with 5-1 records.

          Sophomore Elijah Farr ignited the game-ending run with a 3-pointer followed by a pair of free throws from J.J. Kalakon with :19.8 left. Logan turned the ball over at half-court and Taaj Patterson nailed the game-winner with :10.8 left on the clock.

          Logan wasn’t done.

          Another JAL turnover put Patterson at the free throw with less and six seconds on the clock, but he missed both shots.

          Doug Watkins grabbed the rebound and threw the ball ahead to Rio McKinney who missed a tear-drop in the lane and then Watkins missed a tip-up to end the game.

          Cobie Montgomery paced the Blue Knights (7-3) with 17 points. Farr scored 15 while Kalakon added ten.

          Watkins paced JAL (7-2) with 16 points – McKinney scored 12, Xavier Ball 11, Sydney Curry 11, but was 1-6 from the free throw line.

          Olney led 32-20 at halftime.

 Vincennes 79; Kaskaskia 64

          Eighteenth-rated Vincennes picked up a third straight win, turning back Kaskaskia, 79-64, at home.

          The Trailblazers played the final 22 minutes without head coach Todd Franklin who was ejected from the game after getting his second technical foul with 2:12 left in the half.

          VU nursed a 35-34 lead at the break, but bolted out to an early 46-35 second half advantage and eventually led by as many as 19 points with five minutes left in the game.

          Freshman Justin Archer came off the bench to lead VU (8-3) with 17 points. Chris Wells scored 16 with 13 from Brandon Muntu and another 12 points by Randy Tucker. Archer grabbed nine rebounds while Wells had eight.

          Sophomore Shomari Tillett led Kaskaskia (5-3) and all scorers with 25 points. Payton Sheen and Chauncey Hughes scored 12 each and Traeveion Jones scored 11 points.

          By NJCAA rule, Franklin will have to sit out Saturday’s game at Southwestern Illinois.

 SWIC 79; Lincoln Trail 70

          Southwestern Illinois went 14-26 from beyond the three-point to topple 25th-rated Lincoln Trail, 79-70, in Belleville.

          Sam Bledsoe hit four treys and scored 16 points to lead the 5-3 Blue Storm. Adonis Humphreys scored 15 while Walter Johnson added 12 points to the lineup.

          Sophomore Clint Wickcliff, playing his first game, led LTC (5-3) by scoring 13 of his 16 points in the second half. Nelson Mbongo had 13 for the Statesmen while high-scoring guards Ahmad Price and Blaise Beauchamp were held to just four points each on the night.

          SWIC built a 42-29 halftime lead and upped the margin to as many as 26 points in the final twenty minutes.

 Shawnee 94; Lewis & Clark 67

          The Shawnee Saints grabbed their second win of the season, taking down Lewis & Clark, 94-67, on the road in Godfrey.

          Sophomore Javon Clark scored 15 of his game-high 20 points to help Shawnee to a 53-31 halftime lead.

          Adrian Cohen scored 15 for Shawnee (2-4) followed by Ryan Gordan with 15, A.K. Hazley, 13 and Keon Jones who had eleven points.

          Brandon Malone hit three treys and scored 17 for the Trailblazers now winless in six games. Zidane Moore and Dakari Allen had 11 points each.
