The Illinois Department of Transportation is reporting Interstate highways and major highways around the state and South-Central Illinois as snow-covered Thursday morning as another winter storm passed over.
More plowing was completed on Wednesday, but secondary roads in the city and rural areas all remain snow-packed slick, and hazardous with extra caution needed.
The Salem Water Treatment Plant recorded an additional inch of snow during the 24 hour period ending at seven Thursday morning. Melted precipitation totaled three-one-hundredths of an inch. Nine inches of snow remained on the ground.
The Centralia Water Plant has released snow totals for the week. Two inches fell on Monday, seven inches on Tuesday, and an additional half-inch for the 24 hour period ending at seven Thursday morning. There is also nine inches of snow on the ground in Centralia.
Dramatically warmer weather is on the way with high temperatures over freezing Saturday and Sunday, 42 for a high Monday and 52 on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
