Ameren Illinois reports 850 customers in the Irvington and Wamac area were left without electricity for about an hour and 20 minutes beginning just before noon on Wednesday.

Ameren spokesperson Brian Bretsch says an equipment malfunction caused the South Centralia substation to go offline.   He reports those who normally are served by the substation were moved to other electrical feeds while work to repair the problem continued through the afternoon.

Bretsch says the problem was unrelated and a totally different type of issue than the equipment failure that caused a power line to fail in a rural area west of Centralia on Tuesday morning that left around 25,000 people on the Ameren system and those on 12 Tri-County Electric substations without power until electrical feeds were changed to restore power for all but about 100 of them.
