A Walnut Hill home was damaged in an electrical fire Monday afternoon.
Centralia Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Ross Boshera says the fire was at the Barbara Nelms home at 402 Jefferson.
He reports the fire began in faulty electrical wiring in the attic above the kitchen ceiling. The department was called when the occupants thought they smelled something burning and noticed burn marks on the kitchen ceiling.
Firemen had to remove the kitchen ceiling to put the fire out.
The fire was confined to the kitchen and there was no significant smoke damage to the rest of the home.
Kell Firemen were called for mutual aid assistance because firemen were not certain on the extent of the fire when receiving the call and because of the extreme cold. Boshera said the cold and heavy snow ended up not being a major factor.
The fire call came in at 3:30 Monday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene for about two hours.
