State Police say no one was hurt in two crashes that occurred Tuesday morning in a construction zone in the southbound lanes of I-57 near the Dix exit.
State Police say the first crash occurred when a passenger vehicle spun out on the roadway. A semi stopped to avoid hitting the car but was rear-ended by a second semi who in turn was hit in the rear by a third truck. The second crash occurred when a car stopped to avoid the first crash was rear-ended by a second car which was then rear-ended by a third vehicle.
No injuries were reported with either crash. The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours during the crash investigation.
Marion County ESDA directed traffic off the interstate onto Route 161 and Route 37 to Mt. Vernon during the crash investigation.
State Police urge motorists to slow down and allow extra time for travel as many roads are snow-covered and hazardous.
