Four fire departments battled a fire that destroyed a mobile home in rural Opdyke Monday night.

Jefferson Fire Protection District officials say the fire was at the William Jones home at 19,251 East Bakerville Road. He was home at the time and able to get out safely. The structure was fully engulfed in flames when firemen arrived.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The investigation has been turned over to the state Fire Marshal’s office.

Firemen were slowed in getting to the scene as a result of the road conditions and the closest fire hydrant was frozen up.

Jefferson Fire Protection District received mutual aid assistance from Mt. Vernon City, Bluford and Waltonville Firemen at the scene, while Woodlawn and Benton Firemen stood by at the Jefferson Rural station in the event of another fire.

The alarm came in at 10:28 Monday night. Firemen were on the scene for about three and a half hours.
