State Police say a 57-year-old Shattuc man was killed on Thursday afternoon when his pickup truck crashed into the rear of a semi near the Memorial Drive exit ramp in Mt. Vernon.
The victim has been identified as Joseph Curry. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Curry was the only one in the pickup truck.
A preliminary investigation indicates Curry was traveling north on I-57 when he attempted to exit and struck the rear of the semi that was stopped on the right shoulder just past the exit ramp.
The driver of the semi, 26-year-old Kadeem Lindsey of Orlando, Florida escaped injury as did a passenger in the semi, 39-year-old Reder Rancy of Springfield Missouri.
The crash is still under investigation. It occurred at 2:15 Thursday afternoon.
